Interior Decorating in Ottawa with Sarah Kidder

“Interior design is personal,” claims Sarah Kidder of SK Designs.  Whether you are in Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Orleans or points in between, it is a given fact. And because it is personal, it defies criticism and transcends opinion. That is a given, although not everyone observes that rule.  What you may not know is that the better the relationship you have with your decorator or designer, the more likely it is that you will get your stamp on the design, with a little support where you need it the most.

During a consultation it is imperative to ask very personal questions. "How does your dinner routine work?" for a kitchen project or "Do you take showers or baths?" for a bathroom renovation. These important questions help whittle away the excess assumptions and carve into the heart of the matter, so that when you are left alone to re-enjoy your home, it is as inspiring and fulfilling as you wished it to be.

For starters, changing your wall colour is the fastest and easiest way to transform your space!  New paint can change the entire feel and mood of your room, and is a budget-friendly way to re-decorate!  Colour consultations usually last 1-3 hours and quality consultants have access to cheaper paint prices through industry contacts.

If you are not sure where to start with your bedroom makeover or how to accessorize your shelves or where to hang your art, you are not alone. With so many options and opinions, it can become overwhelming very quickly. Design consults are handy when you just need some advice and ideas and often they can combine their skills to give you a colour consult.

If you are selling your home, then you should be aware that Home Staging has been proven to sell your home faster and get you a higher return!  A usual Home Staging Consultation lasts 1-3 hours and consists of a walk-through. Easy suggestions might include new paint colours, re-hanging or re-arranging art and de-cluttering spaces. Essentially the key is to make the home inviting, but leave enough room for prospective buyers to envision themselves within it.

Sarah’s design philosophy is simple:  It's your home, so it should reflect your style, taste, wants and needs.  She understands that her job is to give you fresh ideas and help you achieve your vision! As a 20-something wife and mother of two, I understand the challenges of designing and decorating a space that is durable, practical – and still looks good!
